(in English: New Chart of all the Seafaring Flags of the Known World) Medium: chart Main author(s): Cornelis Danckerts Edition (publisher: place): (unknown publ.): Amsterdam (The Netherlands) Language:Dutch Edition date: 1705 (1st ed.) Format: 23×27 cm Missing info! (1) Remarks: Original chart in Nederlandsch Historisch Scheepvaart-Museum, Amsterdam.
139 flags and one illustrating the colors. It states: op de
Nieuwendijk (a street in Amsterdam) in den Atlas met Previlege, so
originally probably part of an atlas, later printed separately. On the
1970 reprint is written: c. 1700, but
it is probably c. 1705: the most recent flag of the chart is of c. 1705.
Online version
available. Jarig Bakker, 19 October 2000
There is a chart due to Cornelis Dankerts, which
Wilson 1986 dates c. 1710, but the
Nationale Historisch Scheepvaart Museum in Amsterdam and
Siegel 1912 date c. 1700. There is
a copy of this dated 1716 published by Homann (which is identical
with the previous one, but not ascribed, so that I guess we would
call it a plagiarism now, but I do not know about early 18th century
manners on these things. Norman Martin, 02 Jul 2000
